The SR range of Bull-it jeans comes in two styles – the SR4 and SR6 ranges (the main difference being the protection coverage of the Covec impact abrasion layer). The version I tried was the SR6, which has 60% protection coverage, giving a slightly longer abrasion resistance time of 6 secs in the event of an incident (the SR4 has 50% protection/4 sec rating).

The water repellent jeans are made out of 12.5oz dark blue denim with a light faded wash, 100% cotton outer; the side and rear seams are triple-stitched construction and the design is a traditional five pocket affair (plus an additional coin pocket). Other features include a black leather belt patch with embroidered Bull-it logo, a Covec sew-in label and a YKK locking front zipper. The jeans are finished off with a brushed metal matt finish button and front pocket rivets. The Covec material structure provides a thermal barrier which is claimed to keep you warm when it’s cold, and cool when it’s hot. A thermal barrier also prevents heat transfer from road friction. For added protection in the event of an incident the jeans are also fitted with knee and hip armour pockets for the fitting of optional CE 1621 approved protectors.
Sizes availability ranges from 30-54 waist in leg lengths 30-36; I’m an awkward 33 leg which meant that I had to turn-up the bottoms slightly before use; waist size though was a perfect fit for my frame. Out on the road, the jeans weren’t restrictive in any way and I could move my legs easily and freely. The pockets for the armour are in fixed positions – which sometimes means that the insets don’t sit exactly where you’d like them to be – but in these jeans that didn’t prove to be a problem at all.

WHAT IS COVEC MATERIAL?

Covec is a trademarked protective material which claims to offer an extremely low thermal transfer, a high abrasion resistance and a high melting point of over 300 degrees centigrade. It is non-flammable, chemical resistant and has a low moisture regain; it doesn’t break with folding.
